The White Oak High School Band, advancing from the Area C marching Competition, is state bound for the fourth time. The band is leaving Sunday on a charter bus to San Antonio to compete. They will compete November 2nd, at 4:00, at the Alamo dome.

Schools get the opportunity to go to state every two years, and the White Oak Roughnecks have qualified every time.

“I am very excited for this opportunity, because band is very important to me.” Freshman, Hailey Narvaez said “I think this will be a good experience for me since it’s my first year”.

About half of the student body at White Oak is in band, which is a proud accomplishment for their school.

“We have such a big band and the school supports us so much. My favorite part of band is having so many different people to talk to, you can really learn new things in it.” Freshman, Savannah Miller said.

According to the students, band is very important to White Oak.

“Not everyone can say they’re in the best military band in Texas, and I can.” Senior, Carlos Camacho said. “Band isn’t just about marching or playing your instrument. You feel like you’re a part of something and you make new friendships through band you never thought you could.” Freshman, Lauren Hinch said.
