The article, “On Freeing a Child to Be Creative”, The New York Times informs us about child creativity and what sparks their creative minds. It states that a child’s mind is developed by the way they are raised and their parents behavior. If a parent is creative then the child will also be. I agree in saying that we should encourage kids to be more creative and parents should present different things to get the children minds going. We should offer more rewards for creativity and more opportunities for children to be creative. Not every child is creative, but encouraging them to use their imagination might spark some creativity!

The article, “Washington D.C.’s serious sex-trafficking problem”, informs about how sex-trafficking is even in our nations capital. President Obama made January National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Children, the most vulnerable, are victims to sex trafficking.
According to U.S. attorney spokesman Bill Miller, “Since 2009, about 70 defendants have been prosecuted in [federal and D.C. courts] on charges related to human trafficking . . . including abducting or enticing a child into prostitution.” The U.S. attorney’s office is working to end sex trafficking and is scheduling training sessions with D.C. police and schools. Seven churches have already joined the Faith Coalition Against Sex Trafficking in Washington D.C. I support this movement, because sex trafficking is a terrible thing that we try to stop across sea, but it’s happening in our country too, and could be happening down the street from you.

The new Netflix series “Making a Murder” has sparked some interest in the United States of the topic of necessary humiliation of the justice system. The article, “‘Making a Murderer’ shows that our justice system needs a healthy dose of humility” tells the sad story of Steven Avery serving 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. In 2005, he was accused of raping and beating 25-year-old Teresa Halbach. Police targeted Avery because they knew he had previously gotten into trouble by running a woman off the road and pointing a empty gun at her because of the rumors she was spreading about him doing inappropriate things on his front lawn. Gregory Allen was actually the man who beat and raped Halbach. After Avery served many years in prison, Allen went to police and admitted he did a crime that someone was already in prison for. Police disregarded this and didn’t even record it until they had doubts that Avery Committed it. Avery spent 9 more years in prison because police didn’t look more into it. I agree in saying our justice system needs more humiliation. We are supposed to depend on them to keep the dangerous people in jail, and not have rapist getting away with crimes and an innocent person serving in prison. Avery i’m sure is not the only innocent person that has had to serve and there are many people in prison right now taking the false blame. Police need to do a more thorough check and take all things into account before taking years away from someones life.

The topic of my article is the crowning of Miss Universe. The name of my article is, “Miss Philippines Win Miss Universe 2015, Host Calls Miss Colombia Winner”. The world will always remember the mistake that Steve Harvey, co-host of the pageant wrongly crowned Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez instead of Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. Steve Harvey mistaked the “first runner up” as “first place”. He tweeted and apologized but still received mean and racist comments. I feel bad for Steve Harvey because everyone makes mislead and he just inconveniently had it then. I don’t think he deserved the rude comments and posts. I also feel bad for Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines, but they handled it well and probably lowered the amount of bad press Steve Harvey got.

My article this week is called, “Manhunt for suspect accused of shooting Maryland officer in the face”. Police in Maryland were on the looking Friday for an man accused of shooting a police officer in the face. The officer was flown to a hospital and will need eye surgery. The officer was a 10-year veteran with the Aberdeen Police Department. Police are searching for 21-year-old Tyler Scott Testerman. He is wanted for attempted murder. Instead of the veteran being respected, he got shot. This shooting represents some people’s view of police officers. Not everyone is thankful for what they do, and I think they should get more recognition.
